Wetland Restoration and Compensation

What is wetland restoration?

Wetland restoration is returning a wetland’s physical, chemical, or biological characteristics. Restoration cannot fully return a wetland to its historical, pre-impacted, conditions; instead it aims to return the underlying natural ecosystem functions to allow the landscape to evolve naturally in balance and in step with present and future ecological conditions. By doing this, it creates self-sustaining, resilient, adaptable ecosystems that are essential to human wellbeing.
